Vernon Henry Keller, 88, Red Wing died Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Loving Residence.
He was born on October 26, 1923 in Minneapolis to Lawrence and Frances (Justen) Keller. He attended Assumption Schools in Richfield. In 1942 his family moved to Rosemount where they farmed. On July 8, 1950 he married Hedy Ploszay at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Amery, Wis. They continued to farm in Rosemount and in1966 they moved to Vasa Township where they farmed until 1992. Following his retirement he gardened, which was his passion. He would share his produce with family and friends, especially potatoes. He was a member of the Church of St. Joseph, a 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus as a 4th degree Knight, county treasure of the National Farmers Organization, a member of Farmers Union, and was on the Calvary Cemetery board. He also volunteered at the Church of St. Joseph and enjoyed riding his golf cart.
He is survived by his wife, Hedy of Red Wing; children James (Vernie) Keller of Vasa, Gregory Keller of Red Wing, Bernard (Debbra) Keller of Red Wing, Deborah (John) Althaus of Hager City, Jeffrey (Linda) Keller of Red Wing and Jean (Gregg) Diercks of Red Wing; eight grandchildren, Joshua Knutson, Zachary Keller, Matthew Keller, Kendra Keller, Angela Diercks, Melissa Diercks, Tyler Diercks and Emily Diercks; two step-grandchildren, Jeff Harden and Kristine Harden; three brothers, Father Lawrence Keller of St. Paul, Richard (Darlene) Keller of Rosemont, Raymond (LaWanda) Keller of Pine Island; one sister, Clarice Gergen of New Prague. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Sister Lucy Keller
Mass of the Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2011 at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Vernon's grandchildren. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, with a Knights of Columbus prayer service at 5 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Memorials are preferred to Fairview Red Wing Hospice.
