ZUMBROTA The memorial service for Vernon "Neal" Fredrickson will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday (May 9, 2009) at Mahn Family Funeral Home Larson Chapel in Zumbrota. Burial will be in Minneola Lutheran Church Cemetery in Minneola Township, Goodhue County, MN with Military Honors by the Wanamingo Veterans Honor Guard, Quamme Post #186 VFW of Wanamingo, and the Mazeppa Veterans Honor Gaurd.
Mr. Fredrickson, 84, of Rochester, formerly of Wanamingo, died January 3, 2009 at the Golden Living Center-Rochester East.
He was born August 21, 1924 in Wanamingo, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1942. He worked at the Wanamingo Elevator before enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1943. During World War II, he served in Guam and Iwo Jima and was discharged in 1946 as a corporal. He returned to Wanamingo and worked as a carpenter in the Minneapolis, Rochester and Owatonna areas before retiring in 1989. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards with friends.
Mr. Fredrickson had resided at the Golden Living Center since March 2007.
Survivors include a brother, Arnold of Minneapolis; and four nieces. Two brothers and a niece preceded him in death.
Memorials are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans.
