Vernon L. Berg age 68 of Wanamingo died on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor David Krinke officiating. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, 2008 from 4:00 � 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral home � Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Vernon LeRoy Berg was born on August 14, 1939 on the family farm in Cherry Grove Township, Goodhue County, MN to Melvin and Luella (nee Hjortaas) Berg. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1957. He worked for Haugen Hatchery in Wanamingo for a short time. He started working for Waters Instruments in Rochester and worked there for over thirty years. On June 10, 1967 he married Jeanne Peterson at Spring Garden Lutheran Church in rural Cannon Falls. They made their home in Wanamingo. He retired from Foldcraft in Kenyon in 2003. Vernon was a lifelong member of Lands Lutheran Church, served in the National Guard and was a longtime member of the Wanamingo Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, fishing and reading. Vernon is survived by his wife, Jeanne, one daughter, Angie (Travis) Wibben of New Hartford, IA, one son, Aaron (Jessica) Berg of Zumbrota, four grandchildren, Seth Wibben, Morgan Berg, Sawyer Wibben and Addison Berg, four sisters, Eileen Anderson of Red Wing, Donna (Ronald) Amundson of Wanamingo, Lila (Walter) Johnson of Red Wing, and Judy (Craig) Grudem of Zumbrota and three brothers, Duane (Alice) Berg of Wanamingo, Larry (Sue) Berg of McGregor, MN and Rueben (Brenda) Berg of Wanamingo. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, two infant daughters, one brother, Marlan, one sister, Yvonne Hinsch and his brother in law, Richard Anderson. The family suggests memorials to donor's choice.
