Vernetta Jean VanDeusen, 79, Red Wing, died Sunday at her residence. She was born March 14, 1928 in Trimbelle Township, the daughter of Myron A. and Etta E. (Howe) Greeley. She attended schools in Ellsworth and graduated from Red Wing Central High School. She married Laurence "Larry" VanDeusen on January 8, 1946 in Red Wing. She worked for 20 years at Red Wing Shoe, 1952-1972 and then worked at the Bar & Wheel for 14 ½ years. Laurence died August 11, 2005. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Pocahontas and the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries. She enjoyed fishing, dancing, music, reading books watching movies and her cat, Snookie.
Survivors include four children: Leola (Rodney) Lohman of Goodhue, Jeanne (José) Lopez of Cannon Falls, Larry (Denise) VanDeusen of Hager City and Steve (Char) VanDeusen of Red Wing; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters: Florence Bartels and Lola Greeley and one great-granddaughter, Anna Lohman.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Christ Episcopal Church with Reverend Charles Uhlik officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary and Rodney Holst, Brian, Cory and Shane Lohman and Jason VanDeusen. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 4-7 p. m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service and on Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
