Verneal Adams

Verneal Alice Adams, 91, of Zumbro Falls, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. She was born November 20, 1916 in Rural Lake City Mount Pleasant TWP. in Wabasha County, to John C. and Elsie (Freiheit) Meerkins. She married Roderick F. Adams on May 14, 1941 at the Bremen Lutheran Church. They farmed in rural Zumbro Falls for many years. Roderick died February 22, 1988. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Mazeppa. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and playing cards. She also belonged to the "You Been Stuck" Card Club, Birthday Club and VFW Auxiliary in Zumbro Falls.

She is survived by 4 sons, Roderick Jr. (Rita) of Wabasha, John (Donna) of Mazeppa, Jim (Bev) of Zumbro Falls and Gene "Bucky" Adams of Zumbro Falls; 1 daughter, Cindy (Curt) Johnson of Mazeppa; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 1 brother, Martin (Bonnie) Meerkins of Mazeppa.

She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son; 2 brothers, Willard and Virgil Meerkins and 1 sister, Ruby Franz.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Mazeppa with Reverend Alan Horn officiating. Burial will be at Dale Pleasant Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Tom, Todd, Troy, Tim and Corey Adams and Dean Fiedler. Honorary pallbearers will be Tracy Mills, Tammy Fiedler, Missy Papenfus, Lori Badger and Melaney Adams
