Verna B. Lindley

Verna Lindley, 96, of Red Wing, died Monday, November 30, 2009, at St. Brigid's Villa at Hi-Park. She was born February 17, 1913 in Mound Prairie, Minnesota, to Herman and Ida (Vix) Papenfus. She grew up in Hokah, Minnesota and attended rural schools in Houston County. Verna married Ralph Krick on June 1, 1933 in Waukon, Iowa and they lived in Caledonia where they farmed until moving to Austin in 1951. Verna worked in the dietary department at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin. Ralph died in January of 1955. She married Lee Lindley on March 1, 1961 and they moved to St. Ansgar, Iowa where they lived until 1964. After Lee retired, they moved to Osage, Iowa and Verna worked was an activities director at Faith Lutheran Nursing Home in in Osage, until her retirement in 1976. Lee died November 29, 1988 and Verna moved to Red Wing in 1989 to be closer to her family. She enjoyed her family, baking, painting and hardanger. She was a member of United Lutheran Church of Red Wing, Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, Iowa, and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Austin.

She is survived by four children, Janice Krick of LaCrosse, WI, Neil (Jean) Krick of Blaine, Glennys Krick of Hastings, and Joy (Michael) Krajna of Red Wing; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; brother, Elmer (Beatrice) Papenfus of St. Charles, MN; daughter-in-law Victoria Krick of Hastings, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by both husbands, granddaughter, Natalie Lyons, grandson, Jarvis Tewes, great-grandson, Matthew Myhre, five sisters and six brothers.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2009 at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Randall Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, Minnesota at a later date. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.
