Verna E Gerken age 76 of Lake City passed away Friday, December 2, 2011 at the Lake City Care Center.
Verna was born March 9, 1935 to Frank & Helene (Siems) Springer in Rochester, MN. She grew up in the Millville area. Verna married Vincent Gerken March 30, 1954 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Potsdam. They lived and farmed in Lake Township in Wabasha County. They moved to Lake City in 1982 and retired from farming in 1996. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City. She resided at the Wabasha Nursing Home for five years, and at the Lake City Care Center since July 2010. She enjoyed traveling to Arizona and spending her winters there. She loved taking bus tours with her husband travelling throughout the United States.
She is survived by her husband, Vincent; three daughters, Suzanne "Sue" (Kim) Keim of Lake City, Betty Lou Goff of FL, Bev (David) Pearson of Rochester; four sons, Donny (Maria) of Lake City, James of Wabasha, Jerry (Jennifer) of Lake City, Daryll (Theresa) of Lake City; 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; 6 sisters, Myrtle Ziebell of Winona, Nettie (Donald) Krueger of Rochester, Lucille Rietmann of Rochester, Ardella Hodgkins of Rochester, Evelyn Moen of Rochester, Marilyn Kapper of Spring Valley, a sister in-law Charlotte Springer of Elgin. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, 3 sisters, and daughter-in-law, Lisa.
A Funeral service will be held Monday December 5, 2011 at 2:00 pm at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City with Rev. Daniel Kroll officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 12 to 2 at the church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Lake City. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City is handling the arrangements.
