Vern Eugene Johnson, age 84, of Hager City, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. He was born on October 3, 1923, in Boyceville, Wisconsin, to Verne and Alvina (Rosenberg) Johnson. He attended Stockholm schools and graduated from Maiden Rock High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force training pilots in Del Rio, Texas. He married Helen Salo on August 2, 1947, in Red Wing. They lived in Stockholm, Red Wing and Maiden Rock prior to retiring to Hager City. She died on August 5, 2005. He worked for S. B. Foot Tanning Company for several years and for Home Gas Company. He was a member of the Maiden Rock American Legion Post. He was a handyman and enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include three children, Eugene (Vickie) Johnson of Hager City, Teresa (Dean) Hove of Red Wing and Amy (Paul) Hallenberger of Red Wing; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Arnold (Evelyn) Johnson of Maiden Rock; and one sister, June (Harvey) Darst of St. Paul. His wife preceded him in death.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Randall Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of services Monday at the church. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn chapel is handling arrangements.
