Verla Loraine Hauschildt

Verla Loraine Hauschildt, age 87, of Red Wing died on Monday, October 7, 2013 at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park in Red Wing. Verla was born on September 25, 1926 in Marshall Co., MN to William and Christine (Anton) Mehrkens. She attended a one-room schoolhouse near Thief River Falls, MN. On July 1, 1946 was married Lenous Hauschildt and they later divorced in 1966. She worked at Red Wing Shoe Company for several years before receiving her G.E.D. in 1981. In 1984 she was married to Milford Klindworth. After their divorce she was married to Donald Brubaker in 1987 and they divorced. She graduated from Rochester Technical College as a certified nursing assistant in 1988 and then worked for 11 years at Methodist Hospital in Rochester. She lived in Red Wing, Rochester, Goodhue, Lake City, and most recently resided at Jordan Towers in Red Wing. Verla loved sewing, dancing, and traveling in her car. She was a foster grandparent for many years at the Vasa Children's Home, His Kids Day Care, Arc of Bethany Day Care, and Learning Circle Day Care. She was very proud of being a GoldStar Mother and also was a volunteer at the Red Wing History Museum.

She is survived by her three children, Connie (Ron) Nielsen of Bloomington, Clark (Debra)
Hauschildt of Minneapolis, and Tony (Linda) Hauschildt of Duluth; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild who is due this week; four siblings, Lois Avery of Red Wing, Selma Albers and Carol Anderson both of Goodhue, and William Mehrkens of Thief River Falls; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Verla was preceded in death by her son, Charles Hauschildt; parents; brother, Arnold Mehrkens; sisters, Emma Diercks and Luella Peterson.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Red Wing. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, October 9 at Mahn Family Funeral Home in Red Wing and again one hour prior to the service at Concordia Church. Memorials are preferred to the church.
