Vera A. Scherer, age 94, of Zumbrota died on Saturday June 12, 2010 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Wednesday June 16, 2010 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Zumbrota with the Reverends Dr. Gary Titusdahl and Kitty Burbo officiating. The visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday June 15, 2010 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Zumbrota Cemetery.
Vera Ann Eberhart was born on December 30, 1915 in Pine Island to Fred and Marie (nee Rew) Eberhart. The family moved to Zumbrota and Vera graduated from the Zumbrota High School in 1935. She then worked for Eberhart's Super market and later owned and operated Northside Café in Zumbrota, which was closed in 1968. She then went to the Northgate Café in Rochester as a waitress and cook. She then went to work at the Kahler Hotel as a waitress, where she retired in 1986. Vera married Art Scherer on March 7, 1948 in Zumbrota. The couple made Zumbrota their home. Vera enjoyed playing cards, reading, cooking, and gardening. She also enjoyed watching game shows and spending time with family.
Vera is survived by her three children, Jerald Scherer and Larry Scherer, both of Zumbrota, and Patsey Blakstad (Lynn Liebenow) of Mazeppa; five grandchildren, Bryan (Becky) Blakstad, Chadwick (Jodie) Blakstad, Stacie (Steve) Denton, Sara (Melvin) Rivers, and Anne Scherer; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Marie; her husband, Art; daughter, Jean Scherer; and siblings, Joyce Tilbury, Grace Jorgensen, Maxine Cooke, Fred Eberhart Sr., Richard Eberhart, and infant sister, Lorraine.
