Valborg Hedman

Valborg Hedman age 101 of Zumbrota died on Tuesday morning, January 15, 2008 at the Zumbrota Health Services. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor Eric Westlake officiating. Burial will be in Lands Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Valborg Strand was born on May 2, 1906 in Roscoe Township, Goodhue County, MN to Erik and Mary (nee Lunde) Strand. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural school at Roscoe Center. In 1923 she graduated from Zumbrota High School. She attended normal training at Kenyon High School and taught in rural schools. She then went to Mankato State Teachers College and graduated so she could teach in town schools. Valborg taught for twenty two years in rural and town schools. For a short time she worked at Worral Hospital and St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. Valborg also worked for a short time at Brown and Bigelow's in St. Paul and their branch office in Minneapolis. She attended and graduated from the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis. On June 12, 1953 she married Lawrence Hedman of Cumberland, WI at Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. During retirement they moved back to rural Zumbrota and lived there until Lawrence died in 1982. In 1983, Valborg moved to the Towers in Zumbrota and lived there until entering the Zumbrota Nursing Home on June 3, 2004. Valborg is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, sister in law and brother in law, Dorothy and Alenous Hedman of Barron, WI; and sister in law, Genevieve Hedman of Spokane, WA. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother and three sisters. The family suggests memorials to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church or missions.
