Tyrola Clarice Smith, 92, of Red Wing formerly of Nisswa died Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at the Fairview Seminary Home in Red Wing. She was born on September 12, 1918 in Hendricks, Minnesota the daughter of Christ and Gertie (Sand) Wold. She graduated from Hendricks High School, and then attended nursing school in Watertown, South Dakota. She served in the United States Army during World War II as a registered nurse and received rank as a 2nd Lieutenant. She married Paul R. Smith in Topeka, Kansas on March 10, 1945. They lived in Colorado Springs, Hayes, KS, Cedar Falls, Iowa, St. Paul, MN, and Pequot Lakes, MN. They had a summer home in Nisswa and wintered many years in Florida. Paul died in 2003. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa. She was a loving mother and enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening and was fond of flowers.

Survivors include her daughters Patricia (Ed) Erickson of Madison, WI, Cheryl (Scott) Friese of Red Wing, son Cris (Christine) Smith of Pequot Lakes. Seven grandchildren; Anne Eggenberg, Tim Erickson, Nina Sargent, Zachary Smith, Zane Smith, Adrian Friese, Kelsey Gianou, and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul R. Smith, and four sisters.

Services will be held at St. Brigid's at Hi Park Chapel on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 1:00 pm with Reverend Kristin Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery at Little Falls, Minnesota. Memorials are preferred to St. Brigid's at Hi-Park Healing Garden or Lutheran Church o f the Cross in Nisswa.
