Trent Allen Schmotzer

October 1, 1942 — June 8, 2013

Trent Allen Schmotzer, 70, of Red Wing, died Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing, after his long battle with Inclusion-Body Myositis, a muscle degenerative disease.

He was born on October 1, 1942 in Windom, MN to Leonard and Lucille (Hanson) Schmotzer. Trent grew up in Storden, MN and graduated from Lamberton High School. He graduated from the Brown College of Radio Broadcasting in Minneapolis. In 1963, he moved to Red Wing and began at KCUE/KWNG Radio, as the "Voice of the Hiawatha Valley". On April 15, 1966, Trent married Marlene Sather at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Beldenville, WI. They had two children, Greg and Kelly. He retired from radio broadcasting on July 31, 2003. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and watching television. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Red Wing Elks Club BPOE #845, Red Wing Community Education and Gangs Task Force.

Trent is survived by his wife, Marlene of Red Wing; one son, Greg (Sharyl) Schmotzer of Hastings; one daughter, Kelly (Michael) Carstens of Des Moines, IA; four grandchildren, Tyler and Riley Schmotzer, Michaela and Madison Carstens; one brother, Reid (Dianne) Schmotzer of St. Joseph, MN; one sister-in-law, Carol (Sather) Gilbertson of Beldenville, WI.

Trent was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Tianna Nicole Schmotzer and a brother-in-law, Melvin Sather.

Funeral services will be at 11a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing with Reverend John Sutherland officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Red Wing. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Trent's name to The Myositis Association (www.myositis.org), the Red Wing Food Shelf, and Noontime Kiwanis Flower Basket Fund.
