Thomas Harry Borgen, 76, of Red Wing, died Thursday, March 1, 2007 at the Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. He was born February 11, 1931 in Red Wing to Harry and Mae (Andersen) Borgen. At the age of 5 he started ski jumping and became a member of the Aurora Ski Club. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1950 and then joined the US Air Force, serving during the Korean War. As a young man, he played as an outfielder for the Red Wing Scarlets and Aces baseball teams. On October 15, 1955, he married Janice Olson in Wanamingo and they lived in Red Wing. He worked for Marigold Dairies for 15 years, Sargent?s Nursery, the Red Wing Country Club, Ehler?s Department Store and he retired from Red Wing Super Valu in 1992. After retiring, he drove the beverage cart at Mississippi National Golf Links. He was a member of United Lutheran Church, where he was a part of the Men?s Cooking team; Izaac Walton; Leo C. Peterson American Legion #54; RW Elks BPOE #845; Wildlife League; a charter member of the Sons of Norway; an ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce; RW Madrigal Singers and the RW Male Chorus. He is survived by his wife, Janice of Red Wing: 4 children, Timothy (Cheryl) Borgen of Red Wing, Jill (Scott) Finstuen of Faribault, Beth (Ann Lindberg) Borgen of Hastings, and Jennifer (Travis) Barringer of Cottage Grove; his brother, Jerry (Patricia) Borgen of Red Wing; 8 grandchildren, Jarid (Leah DeMann) Finstuen and Andy Finstuen, Kristin (Tim) Mohr, Ryan Borgen, Alec and Aiden Borgen and Maggie and Ellie Barringer; 3 great-grandchildren, Alexis and Kaylee Finstuen and Tyler Mohr; 1 nephew and 3 nieces and a special family friend, Cindy Borgen of Hawley, MN. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2007 at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Randall Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Puppe, Quint Hawkensen, Curtis Holmquist, Bernard Fairbanks, Charles Carlson, Howard Wells, Monte Nelson and Jim Gedrose. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to United Lutheran Church or donor?s choice.
