Thomas L. Tyler

Thomas Laverne Tyler, 89, Bay City, died Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rochester. He was born May 6, 1926 in Red Wing, the son of Lyle and Elsa (Hortenbach) Tyler. He was a 1944 graduate of Red Wing Central High School, he attended St. Cloud State University and he served in the U S Air Force during WWII. Following his honorable discharge from the military he married Eileen Paulson on April 7, 1951. From 1949 until September, 2010, he owned and operated Bay City Hardware which had been established in 1907 by his grandfather. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Red Wing; Bay City Harding Hall Darrington American Legion #357; he was a member of the boards of Hager Telecom, Hiawatha National Bank and for 30 years served on the Pierce County Board of Supervisors where he was Second Vice Chairman for 20 years. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include: one nephew, David Florness of Vernon, Ariz.; one niece, Laurel Hale of Redding, Calif.; two goddaughters, Jeannie Simon of Hager City and Karlene (Kevin) Dillingham of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Eileen; his parents and one sister, Lyla Reinier.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Bay City Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
