Thomas Lee Thomforde
April 2, 1951 — May 30, 2017
Thomas L. Thomforde, age 66, of Stewartville, formerly of Zumbrota passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 surrounded by family. The memorial service will be on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 11:00 am at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Dr. Margaret Pleis-Sippola officiating. The visitation will be on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Thomas Lee Thomforde was born on April 2, 1951 in Zumbrota to Wallace and Doris (Eayrs) Thomforde. He grew up in Zumbrota and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1969. Tom attended Metropolitan Community College and worked in St. Paul during this time. He married Gloria Bennett on December 31, 1977 in St. Paul. They made their home in Zumbrota where they raised their two children. Tom worked various jobs throughout his life he was a great advocate for the poor and worked several jobs that helped the less fortunate to get ahead in life in the way of training and education. He started and ended his working career as a meat cutter, working with Michael's Restaurant the last 20 years before his retirement in 2015.
Tom enjoyed gardening and had the talent for making anything grow - a real green thumb. He enjoyed fishing and golfing and especially spending time with his grandkids and family. He loved to read and was well educated in many areas. He was a gifted conversationalist and quite the story teller. A very interesting and entertaining man. He enjoyed wood carving with his wife and made many beautiful items
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Gloria; two children, Mariko (Todd Lemmerman) Thomforde of Zumbrota and John Thomforde of Stewartville, six grandchildren, Mallory, Joe, Emma, Taylor Ann, Drew and Mia; two great-grandchildren, Gracelynn and Traecyn; brothers, Duane (June) Thomforde of New Ipswich, NH, Fred (Joanie) Thomforde of Zumbrota, Tim (Angela) Thomforde of Luray, KA; and many nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Kay Hines.
Tom was a wonderful father, husband and grandfather. He was a very loving man, kind and helpful to all he ever met. His soul is pure and honest. His absence will be felt by many. Love you Tom. Rest in Peace
