Thomas William Murphy, age 84, of Red Wing, formerly of Ellsworth, WI, died on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. He was born on March 8, 1931 in Ellsworth, WI to Henry and Marie Murphy. He graduated from Ellsworth High School, where he was involved in football, baseball, and boxing. Tom was a lifelong farmer. After his retirement, he worked at ACE Hardware in Red Wing for 25 years. In his free time he enjoyed hunting and his yearly trips to Montana, and spending time at his cabin in Danbury, WI. Tom married Violet Opitz in May 1985. Together they enjoyed going up north, boating, traveling, and dancing.
Tom is survived by his wife, Violet of Red Wing; two step-sons, Mark (Jackie Anderson) Opitz of Bay City, WI and Brian (Stan Orr) Opitz of Red Wing; and two step-grandchildren, Daniel and Jeremy Opitz.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kathleen Relander.
Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 30, 2015 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Deacon Pat Evans presiding. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
