Thomas A. Josephson

Thomas Alfred Josephson, 82, of Red Wing, died Saturday, November 1, 2008, at this home. He was born on March 3, 1926, in Red Wing, Minnesota to Eliot and Anne (Rogers) Josephson. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1944 and from the University of Minnesota with a degree in electrical engineering. During World War II, from June 23, 1944 to July 12, 1946, he served in the US Navy. On September 3, 1950, he married Marilyn Sikkink in Watertown, South Dakota. From 1950 until 1992 he owned and operated Josephson's Clothing Store in downtown Red Wing as the 3rd generation. He was a lifelong active member of First United Methodist Church. Tom had 60 active years of Boy Scout membership. He received his Eagle Scout Award as well as following his father's footsteps in earning the highest award in adult volunteering, the Silver Beaver. He was also an active member of the Roundy Club. He enjoyed the outdoors, his home, family and was very dedicated to his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; three children, Ronald (Jeanne) Josephson of Juneau. Alaska, Roy Josephson of Haines, Alaska and Mary Ann Josephson of St. Paul; seven grandchildren, Tom, Matt, Ryan (Hannah) and Holly Josephson, Ah-Rang, Shane and Monica; six great grandchildren; one brother, Eliot Josephson of Lake Arrowhead, California and many nieces and nephews along with special friends, the Brad Kimball family. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Martha Josephson; one grandchild, Aaron Josephson and one sister, Muriel Anthony.

A celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2008, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Walther officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2008, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the church, Boy Scouts of America or donor's choice.
