Thomas Gwaltney

October 19, 1941 — July 5, 2012

Thomas H. (Wolfie) (Red), Gwaltney, of Lake City, went to be with our Lord and Savior after a brave battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) Thursday, July 5th, 2012 at the age of 70 years and 8 months and 16 days.
Tom was born October 19th, 1941 in Streator, IL to Homer & Edna Leshewski. He grew up in Wichita, Kansas. He graduated from East High School in Wichita, Kansas in 1959. Tom was a plumber and a pipefitter. Tom married Joyce Sample in 1961, and they moved to Lake City. They later divorced. He worked on the construction of the Prairie Island Nuclear Plant, Koch Refinery while a member of Union Local #6. Tom married Barbara Guthrie in 1995. Baseball was his first love. He was a player, coach, manager, and sponsor. Tom was inducted into the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall Fame in September of 2009. He was a proud and loving grandfather. Tom has resided in Reads Landing Minnesota with his son Scott and daughter in-law Robin since he went on a ventilator in October of 2009.
Tom is survived by his wife Barbara of Lake City; two sons Scott (Robin) Gwaltney of Reads Landing, Gary (Sarah) Gwaltney of Inver Grove Heights; four grandchildren, Brett, Jenna, Alex, Anna; mother Edna Gwaltney of Lake City, three sisters, Joyce Bussler of Leesburg, FL, Linda (Paula Schumacher) Gwaltney of Lawrence, KS, Jane Crouch of Wichita, KS; two brothers, Tim Gwaltney of Wichita, KS, Jim Gwaltney of OK. Tom was preceded in death by his father Homer Gwaltney.
Visitation will be Tuesday July 10, 2012 from 5 to 7 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City. A Celebration of Tom's Life will start at 7:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ken Rowe officiating. Online condolences can be sent at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
