ROCHESTER The funeral for Thomas J. Englund will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Bethany United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wesley Gabel officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #333 of Kasson.
Mr. Englund, 76, died Tuesday (June 3, 2008) at his home of cancer.
Born Feb. 25, 1932 in Red Wing, MN he graduated from high school there in 1951. He then served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged Oct. 5, 1952. On Oct. 22, 1954 he married Shirley A. Johnson in Red Wing. He attended the University of Minnesota for 2 years, after which he joined IBM where he worked for 33 years, retiring in 1991. He coached Little League Football for 12 years, enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family, and attending his grandchildren's sports and other activities. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and American Legion Post #333 of Kasson.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jeff (Laura) of Rochester; and James (Lauri) of Pine Island; three grandchildren, Andrew (Kammi), Amy and special friend Nathan, and Megan; one great grandchild, Ian; a brother, Donald of Monterey, CA; and a sister Marianne (Perry) Wallis of Portland, OR. His parents and a brother preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Mahn Family Funeral Home Rochester Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Bethany United Methodist Church or Seasons Hospice.
