Thomas Joseph Braun, 63, of Lake City, died Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at the Lake City Nursing Home. He was born March 9, 1947 in Caledonia, Minnesota to Joseph and Viola (Winkler) Braun. He was a 1965 graduate of Cathedral High School in Crookston and attended Winona State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1969, and later his Master's degree in Elementary Education. He married Ann Schreiber on May 31, 1968 in Rochester. He began his teaching career in the fall of 1970, teaching 6th grade at Golden Hill Elementary School and then 5th and 6th grade at Ben Franklin Elementary School in Rochester. In 1997, he retired due to his illness and in 2003 he and Ann moved to Lake City. Thomas was an avid outdoorsman, whether it was fishing or hunting ducks and geese or turkey or deer and he especially enjoyed teaching others to experience the outdoors. He also enjoyed woodworking and spending time helping his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Braun of Lake City; 3 sons, Jeff (Kelly) Braun of Mantorville, Joe (Stef) Braun of Lake City and Josh (Tara) Braun of Eyota; 7 grandchildren, Lillian, Caroline, Anna, Carlee, CeCelia, Greta and Hudson Braun; sister, Janelle (Marty) Head of Winona and his mother, Viola Braun of Winona.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph and a grandson, Carson.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 9, 2010 at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church with Father Dernek officiating. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City and for one hour prior to the service on Monday.
