Nicholas, Thaddeus Collins, age 96 of Lake City Minn, formerly of Minneapolis, Minn. passed away on April 24, 2013. He was born November 17, 1916 in Rochester, Pa. He is preceded in death by his parents; Watson and Ida, his brothers; Watson and Frank and his sisters; Elizabeth and Dolly.
He is Survived by his wife of 70 years, Juanita; his son, Watson (Mary) and his grandchildren; Annikki Davis of Minneapolis, Brittany Nicholas of Las Vegas, Nev. and great-grandchild; Kamiah Hudson of Minneapolis.
Thaddeus was a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in Science and worked all of his adult life in Minneapolis. He worked for General Mills and Pillsbury although; his most robust working years were in sales with Rasmussen and Associates.
Thaddeus was an avid golfer and for many years was a primary organizer for the annual Bronze Tournament at Theodore Wirth Golf Club and in later years, at Hiawatha Golf Course. He was the face of the Bronze tourney for 30 years. Thad was instrumental in promoting blacks in golf and encouraging golf courses to welcome blacks into their clubs. He also helped to start the first black golf club in Minneapolis called the Twin Cities Golf Club and was its president for many years. His love for golf continued into his retirement years with his association at the Lake City Golf Club. An informal gathering will be held on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lakewood Cemetery Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis Minn.
