Terry Ray Carlson, 74, of Welch, died unexpectedly on Saturday, January 27, 2018. He was born on June 27, 1943, in Red Wing to Virgil and Pauline (Smith) Carlson. He graduated from Red Wing High School in 1961. On September 12, 1964, he was united in marriage to LaVonne Ann Johnson at Lands Lutheran Church rural Zumbrota. They lived in Vasa Township where he farmed, worked at S.B. Foot Tannery and for many years owned and operated Better Hearing Aid Centers. He was a lifelong member of Vasa Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. He was a supervisor for Vasa Township and served on the REA Operation Round-up Board. He enjoyed being part of the Model T-Totalers car club, but also enjoyed birds and spending time with his grandchildren and attending their many events.
Terry is survived by his wife, LaVonne of 53 years; two children, Lisa (George) Meyer of Wabasha and Robert (Amy) Carlson of Welch; his mother, Pauline Carlson of Welch; seven grandchildren, Joshua (Aeriell), Matthew, Jordan and Marcus Meyer and Kaitlin, Molly and Nathan Carlson; one great grandchild due in June; three siblings, Carol (Jeff) Bengtson of Burnsville, David (Mary Mann) Carlson and Michael (Hettie) Carlson all of Welch and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Randi Carlson and his father and mother-in-law, Ludvig and Clara Johnson.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018, at Vasa Lutheran Church with Reverend Maureen Hagen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
