Syvilla Lydia Madsen, 86, Red Wing, died Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at her residence. She was born March 30, 1923 in Featherstone Township, the daughter of Ernest and Alma (Holst) Stumpf. She attended schools in Hay Creek. She worked at Griggs and Cooper in Minneapolis and at Red Wing Potteries during WW II. She married Russell Madsen of Prescott, Wis. on September 5, 1945. They moved to Red Wing in 1947. He died April 3, 1981. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hay Creek.
Survivors include two daughters: Lana Horn and Karen (Dale R.) Johnson all of Red Wing; one grandson, Brian D. Johnson; one great-grandson; one sister, Verneil Bodelson of Red Wing; two brothers, Roy (Phyllis) Stumpf and Earl (Lois) Stumpf all of Red Wing; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; her twin sister, Sylvia Madsen and one step-sister, Marilyn Holmquist.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2010 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hay Creek, with Reverend Lowell Sorenson officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to donor's choice.
