Syvilla Ann Bloom, 83, of Red Wing, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at the Seminary Home. She was born April 29, 1930, in Red Wing, to Frederick and Bertha (Greeley) Nelson. She grew up in the Trimbelle, Wisconsin area and attended rural schools there. On July 25, 1953, she was united in marriage to William Miller and they lived in Red Wing. He died unexpectedly on Sept. 15, 1957. She then married John Bloom on January 11, 1960, and they lived in Red Wing until buying their farm in Featherstone Township. Syvilla had worked part-time at the St. James Hotel and Grandpas (now Liberty's) but her day-to-day work was spent raising her family, tending to her gardens, canning and baking-all jobs she loved dearly. She was crafty and enjoyed doing arts and crafts and was well known for her beautifully decorated Christmas trees she had at the farm each year. A past time she and her best friend Bernadine Safe shared was attending auctions and then selling their finds at the local flea markets, something they did together for many years. Syvilla had a great love for animals and had many pets throughout her life. John died almost one year ago to the date of Syvilla's passing, on February 5, 2013.
She is survived by her children, Wayne (Jean) Miller, Daniel Miller, William (Gayle) Miller, Mark Bloom and Bruce Bloom all of Red Wing and Linda (Jerry) Zemke of Goodhue; grandchildren, Brady (Rachel), Kerby, Cody, Jordan and Alyssa; great-grandchildren, Vanessa and Owen and one brother, Elwood (Sharon) Nelson of Red Wing. She was preceded in death by her husbands and a granddaughter, Jessica Zemke.
Funeral service will be 2pm Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Reverend Justin Boeding officiating. Burial will be at Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the Goodhue County Humane Society.
