Sylvester T. "Sonny" Friese age 96 of Zumbrota died on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the Red Wing Health Center. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at11:00 AM at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Wayne D. Schoch officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Sylvester Tilfred Friese was born on April 15, 1915 in Wanamingo Township, Goodhue County, MN to Henry and Hannah (nee Prigge) Friese. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. On November 17, 1939 he married Verona C. Banitt at Christ Lutheran Church. They farmed for many years and Sonny also sold Pioneer Seed Corn, worked at the canning factory in Faribault, the Goodhue County Fair, helped farmers around the area, and later at the Zumbrota Sales Barn. Sonny was a 4-H leader for many years, and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, auctions, traveling, visiting family and friends, playing cards and bingo and dancing with Verona. Sonny will be remembered as a kind and happy man who will be missed by many.
Sonny is survived by his two daughters, Pauline (Paul) Jagusch of Red Wing and Linda (Vernon) Vangsess of Osakis; six grandchildren, Dan Jagusch of New Hope and friend Elisa Collins, David Jagusch of Rochester, Dustin (Jill) Jagusch of Centuria, WI, Loralie (Bruce) Ellingson of Rochester, Linette (Brad) Forsell of Osakis and Jim (Vicki) Vangsness of Clear Lake, WI; six great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Annika, Madison, Jaici, Tanae and Rayne; three great-great-grandchildren, Tyler, Chloe and Ruby; special friend, Elaine Friedrich; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Sonny was preceded in death by his wife Verona, parents and sister, Della Finstuen.
