Suzanne "Sue" C. Wedge

Suzanne Collinge Wedge, 83, died December 10, 2016 at her home.

Suzanne was born in Rochester, MN on July 28, 1933 to Arthur and Avis (Wright) Collinge and was raised in Zumbrota, graduating from Zumbrota High School in 1951. While in high school she was editor of the school newspaper, The Zummary, involved in the creation of the ZHS Annual, and was active in band and Girl Scouts. In 1954 she graduated from Methodist Kahler School of Nursing. On June 22, 1957 Sue married the love of her life, James Wedge. They made their home in Zumbrota. Sue worked as a nurse for 52 years. From 1961 to 2003 at Zumbrota Community Hospital / Zumbrota Health Care until the hospital closed. She was a surgical nurse the majority of this time and loved caring for patients. She retired in 2006 from Pine Haven Care Center.

Sue was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ and was active in youth church activities as a teen. As an adult she held numerous positions including Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Deacon, Trustee, Treasurer, Moderator and was a delegate to the UCC Minnesota Conference. She was actively involved in the Minnesota Conference of the UCC as a member of the Committee on Ministry and the Conference Board of Directors. Sue was actively involved in Girl Scouts and on the Board of Directors for the Cannon Valley Council for many years. She was a charter member of the Zumbrota Community Trust and remained actively involved until her death. As a member of the Zumbrota Area Arts Council since its inception, she manifested her strong affirmation of the arts. Sue enjoyed traveling and had a passion for playing Bridge and enjoyed the company of her friends. She made a point of hosting one last Bridge party for both of her clubs this fall with the assistance of family. Sue then decided she was well enough to attend an additional Bridge club party just before she became house bound.

Sue is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Wedge; 3 children, Sarah (Dan White) Wedge Maguire, McAllen, TX, Mary (Michael) Sapp, Zumbrota, Mark (Jen Kodet) Wedge, Center City, MN; 5 grandchildren, Douglas and Joseph (Nicole), Lowell, MA, Cassie, Missoula, MT, Tori and Ally, Center City, MN; and 2 great-grandchildren, Alexis and Quinn. Also surviving Sue are her sister, Sandra (David) Pahl, Hampton, MN; a sister-in-law, Ruth Wedge, Lake City, MN; 2 aunts, Ardis Phillips, Edina, MN and Norma Lyons, Fort Lauderdale, FL; 5 nieces and nephews; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother-in-law, Richard Wedge, and one niece.
A celebration of Sue's life will be held at 11 am Saturday, December 17th at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Zumbrota with the Rev. Lisa Johnson and the Rev. Kitty Burbo officiating. Visitation will be at the church 1 hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to First Congregational UCC or the Zumbrota Community Trust.
