Susan Taallerud

Sue Taallerud, age 71, of Pine Island died on Sunday December 13, 2009 at her home.
The funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Thursday December 17, 2009 at St Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island. Reverends John Torris Lohre and Kip Groettum will be officiating. The visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Wednesday December 16 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be a private family burial at a later date.
Susan Anne McBurney was born on Nov 4, 1938 in Los Angeles, Calif. She was adopted by Raymond and Evelyn McBurney joining an older brother, Robert. She was baptized on Apr 13, 1941 at First Presbyterian Church in Hollywood, Calif.
After finishing high school in Los Angeles, Sue attended Whittier College in Whittier, Calif. for one year and then transferred to Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. There she met Ron Taallerud. Ron and Sue were married on Jul 5, 1959, and celebrated their fiftieth Wedding Anniversary this past summer.
Ron and Sue moved to Pine Island, Minn, where they started teaching. Sue taught first and second grade before beginning her careers as mother, substitute teacher, Girl Scout leader, child care provider, cake decorator, roving reporter, and grandmother. Their daughter, Marrianne, was born in April of 1960 and died a few days later. Daughter Suzanna Lisa was stillborn in March of 1961. Daughter Becky was born in February 1963 and Mary Sue followed in December of 1964.
Sue's children were the joy and spice of her life. She often praised and thanked God for the gift of her children and the honor of being a mother. Sue was thrilled to open her heart to two sons, Tim and John through the marriages of her girls in 1986 and 1996 and was overjoyed with the additions of her five grandchildren.
Sue and Ron have also shared their love with 12 Godchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Sue loved her family, her God and her church. She loved the ocean, swimming, traveling with Ron, reading, sewing and stitching, looking at photos, and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Ron Taallerud, daughters Becky and her husband Tim Ehling and MarySue Taallerud and her husband John Pokrzywinski, grandchildren Molly Anne, Abbey, and Hannah Ehling, Aggie Pokrzywinski and Fred Taallerud, brother Robert McBurney, sisters-in-law Joyce Flom, Karen Grant, Jeannie (David) Thorson, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Sue was preceded in death by her infant daughters, Marrianne and Suzanna Lisa, her father, Raymond McBurney and her mother, Evelyn McBurney.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to MS Tram, Habitat for Humanity, or Camp Victory.
