Susan Elaine Prescher, 83, of Red Wing, died on Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025, at United Hospital in St. Paul. She was born on September 21, 1941, in Mason City, Iowa to George and Laura (Tank) Atkinson.

Sue grew up in Mason City, graduating from Mason City High School in 1959. Throughout her school years, she was a studious and involved student. She was a clarinet player in the band, was active in “Round Up” Club, attended football games, enjoyed ice skating, attended dances, movies and concerts. She attended Buddy Holly’s last concert in Clear Lake, IA prior to the plane crash that took his life, along with The Big Bopper & Richie Valens, February 3, 1959.

She began her college education at Mason City Junior College, continuing on to Culver Stockton College in Canton Missouri. She was initiated as a lifetime member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, Beta Mu chapter in 1962 and graduated with a bachelors degree in 1963. Following graduation, she moved to Rochester, MN where she was employed as a lab supervisor at Mayo Clinic. On May 6, 1967, she was united in marriage to Donald Prescher at First Christian Church in Mason City. She and Don lived in Rochester until they moved to Red Wing in 1970. They were blessed with two children, Bryan and Nicole. When her children got older, she returned to work for River Region Home Health Care, providing care for others in their homes for over 20 years.

Susan was an active member of United Lutheran Church for over 50 years. She volunteered her time as a Stephen Minister, served on the altar guild, funeral committee and was a long time member of Deborah Circle. She was an avid sports fan, especially of the Twins, Vikings and Minnesota women’s basketball teams. She enjoyed lunches with friends, looked forward to being with family and attending her grandchildren’s activities whenever she could. Her quiet, steady presence and kindness will always be remembered.

Susan is survived by her loving children, Bryan (Sarah) Prescher of Minneapolis and Nicole(Andy) Hanson of Great Falls, Montana; her grandchildren, Gibson and Eliza Prescher and Soren, Signe and Sonja Hanson, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald, infant daughter Pamela and her sister, Carolyn Mueller.

Funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 11 AM at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Reverend Brian Scott officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery following the service, with lunch afterward. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing and at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Memorials are preferred to United Lutheran Church.
