Steven Wayne Marnell, 71, of Goodhue, died Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Bay View Care Center in Red Wing. He was born April 4, 1948 in Sioux City, Iowa to Arthur and Charlotte (Cox) Marnell. Steven lived most of his adult life in Goodhue. On August 7th, 1965 he married Doris Ann Nelson. Together they raised 4 children. The couple later divorced. He worked in construction as a cement finisher and a brick layer. He also worked at S. B. Foot tannery for a time. Steve said the best thing he ever helped make (other than his children) was the Hudson Bridge. He was a hard worker and was proud of how his work contributed to Red Wing and the surrounding areas. Steven enjoyed the outdoors and spent his time fishing, hunting, gardening, cutting wood to heat his home, snowmobiling and four-wheeling. He had a fantastic laugh that could light up a room and he loved celebrating with his family.
He is survived by his four children, Brian (Kathy) Ackerman, Christine (Steven) Pabst, Dawn (Ray Hadler) Vikingson and Angel (Dale) Nord; 8 grandchildren, Mike Behrns, Josh (Caiti) Behrns, Michelle (Zach) Miller, Nichole (Trevor) Alms, Tyler Vikingson, Amanda Nord, Kayla Nord and Cody Nord; and 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Bob (Elaine) Marnell and sister, Cindy (Kevin) Kahl.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Stanley Marnell; and special friend, Phyllis Majerus in March of 2006.
A celebration of life is planned from 1-3 p.m. on his birthday, April 4, 2020 at the Corner Bar in Goodhue. Due to current CDC guidelines and state restrictions on bars and restaurants, this is subject to change. Please contact the family or the funeral home for updates in the coming weeks.
