Steven J. Dahl, 52, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 12, 1956 in Red Wing to John and Donnas (DeLong) Dahl. He attended Ellsworth schools and lived and grew up in Hager City. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army for three years. He married Francoise Wiedenhoft on May 8, 1976 in Fort Lewis, Washington. They moved back to Red Wing in 1977. He worked at ADM in the maintenance department for 29 years. He loved fishing, watching golf, and spending time with his family and grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Fran of Red Wing; children Afton (Derrick) Frank of Caledonia and Samuel of Red Wing; grandchildren Kimber and Hunter; father John "Jack" of Ellsworth, Wisconsin; siblings Denise (John) Witgert of Red Wing, Jeffrey (Brenda) Dahl of Beldenville, Wisconsin, Michael (Heidi) Dahl of Ellsworth, Wisconsin, Timothy (Karen) Dahl of Ellsworth, Wisconsin, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Donnas.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2009 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Private family interment will be at Svea Lutheran Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steven's brothers Michael, Jeffrey, and Timothy and his son-in-law Derrick Frank. Honorary pallbearer will be his son Sam. Memorials preferred to Fairview Red Wing Hospice.
