Stephen "Roger" Duane Wells, Wa'sé "Paint", 59, of the Prairie Island Indian Community, Minnesota, died Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Tinta Wita Tipi Senior Living. He was born March 23, 1960 in Red Wing, Minnesota to Stephen Wells and Charlotte Wells. Roger was a singer and his talents brought him all over the United States, performing and participating in pow-wows. He was proud of his heritage and enjoyed sharing it with the youth in his community. He had a wonderful sense of humor and he loved his little dogs, Baby Gurl and Tabatha.
He is survived by one son, George Roger Wells; brother, Floyd G. Wells; four sisters, Doreen Hagen, LaVita Wells, Janice Wells, Sheri Black Tail Deer and Sophie Wells; special niece, Reyna Defoe; God Children, Dacia Lussier, Joey Taylor; many nieces and nephews and singer brothers.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evangline Buster; brother, Floris Gene; grandparents, Samuel and Ida Wells, and Moses and Mary Wells.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, March 20, 2020 at the Church of the Messiah. A visitation will be from 4 p.m., Thursday, March 19, 2020 at the Church of the Messiah until the time of the service, Friday, with a prayer service at 7p.m., Thursday. Both the visitation and funeral are limited to the immediate family in order to comply with current CDC guidelines. The procession to the church will begin at 4 p.m., Thursday, March 19, 2020. Burial will be at a later date in Flandreau, South Dakota. Arrangements with the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, Red Wing.
