ROCHESTER A Funeral Mass for Sophie Timmons will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Mrs. Timmons, 89, of Rochester, a long time Avon Representative, died Friday (Dec. 7, 2007) at Olmsted Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness.
Sophie Vandy Marchwinski was born Mar. 11, 1918 in Tamaro, IL. She was raised in Todds Mill, IL and moved to St. Louis, MO at age 13, During World War II she worked as a welder in a munitions plant in St. Louis. On Feb. 10, 1945 she married Hulie E. Timmons in St. Louis. The couple moved to Chicago in 1957 and to Rochester in 1959. Her husband is a retired manufacturing engineer. She was an Avon Representative for over 50 years. She was a breast cancer survivor and was very active in cancer awareness donating a portion of her Avon earnings to the American Cancer Society. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and enjoyed cooking, baking, and gardening.
Survivors include her husband, a daughter Darlene (Michael) Ginder of Rochester; three sons Randy of Edmonds, WA; Earl (Mollie); and Daniel, both of Rochester; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a sister Anna Bonk of Warren, MI. An infant son, three sisters, and six brothers preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Mahn Family Funeral Home Rochester Chapel where there will be a 6:00 p.m. prayer service. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
