Shirley Mae Zemke

August 24, 1927 — March 26, 2014

Shirley Mae Zemke, age 86, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at her home at Deercrest. She was born on August 24, 1927, in Red Wing, to Merle and Rosa (Downey) Baker and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1946. On July 7, 1948, she was united in marriage to Orlin Zemke. Shirley worked at the Red Wing Shoe Company until her retirement and also had worked at Bayside Tavern. She was an active member of the Church of St. Joseph, the Red Men Club, and the Leo C. Peterson Post #54 American Legion Auxiliary. Shirley also volunteered for the hospital auxiliary. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling and spending time at her cabin in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin.

Shirley is survived by her three children, Craig (Ann) Zemke of Blaine, Allan (Teresa) Zemke of Red Wing, and Sandy (Jerry) Stachowiak of Red Wing; two grandchildren, Kyle and Kelli Zemke; one sister, Marlis Floen of Red Wing; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orlin and one brother, Armon Baker.

Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2014, at the Church of St. Joseph, with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the church, the Kiwanis Flower Basket Fund, or Mayo Clinic Health Systems Red Wing Hospice.
