Shirley Mae Veith

Shirley Mae Veith, 82 of Red Wing, died Saturday, December 3, 2011, at the Mayo Health System-Lake City Hospital. Shirley was born December 4, 1928, in Red Wing, the daughter of Ginther and Leona (Kolbe) Veith. She grew up in Red Wing and graduated from Red Wing Central High School. After high school Shirley earned her R. N. Degree in Nursing. She also earned Bachelor Degrees in Nursing and also Public Health from the University of Minnesota, a Masters Degree in Nursing from the University of Iowa, and her Ph.D in American Studies-Women in Nursing from the University of Kansas. She taught Nursing at the University of Kansas for several years before returning to Red Wing. Shirley was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and she enjoyed golfing, volunteering at the Sheldon Theater, traveling, knitting, needlework and reading.

She is survived by first cousins; John (Lois) Rockvam of St. Michael, Minnesota, Mary Rockvam of Port Charlotte, Florida, and Dale Veith of Red Wing, and many other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial Service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, December 10, 2011 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at church. Private family burial will be at a later date. Memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the University of Minnesota-School of Nursing.
