Shirley A. Schreader age 78 of Pine Island died on Friday morning, February 17, 2006 at the Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, February 24, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island with Rev?s John Torris Lohre and Kip Groettum co-officiating. Inurnment will be in Pine Island Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.Shirley Ann Durst was born on January 21, 1928 in Mantorville Township, Dodge County, MN to Harold R. and Agnes C. (nee Stromback) Durst. She grew up in the Pine Island area and graduated from Pine Island High School in 1945. On March 7, 1947 she married Floyd C. Schreader in Rochester. They made their home in Pine Island. In 1963 Shirley started working for the U.S. Postal System. She retired in 1988 after twenty five years. After her retirement she took classes at Rochester Community College for two years. Floyd died on March 12, 1981. Shirley was an active member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church where she was involved in the church choir, church band, Womens of the ELCA, Lydia circle,served as president anad treasurer on the Church Council and many other committees. She was also an active member of the Charles Cowden American Legion Post # 184 Auxiliary, where she served in several offices and held offices at the regional level. Shirley was also a member of the Senior Citizens Kitchen Band, Pine Ears, Pine Haven Auxiliary and tuba player in the Chatfield Brass Band, Zumbrota Community Band, Kasson Community Band, Tempo Pleasers and Bucksnorts. She also served three terms on the Board of Directors for Camp Onomia. Shirley loved traveling, singing, any kind of music and was a soloist at many weddings and funerals, and was very proud to have met Bob Barker when she was on the Price is Right. Shirley is survived by two daughters, Barbara Blankenship of San Diego, Ca and Bonnie (Vic) Schnobrich of Rochester, one son, Mark (Pam) Schreader of Pine Island, four grandchildren, Jessica (Brian) Vesey, Billy (Missy) Schreader, Brandon Schreader and Nathan Blankenship, two great granddaughters, Justine Vesey and Chloe Schreader. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Harold & Agnes and one brother, Harold Durst Jr. The family suggests memorials to donor?s choice.
