Shirley Marie McCord, 78, Red Wing, died Thursday morning at Red Wing Health Center. She was born November 14, 1928 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Neva (Murphy) Conerd. She attended school in Waterloo. She was working at Black's Coffee Shop in Waterloo when she met her husband, Merrill "Mac" McCord whom she married on September 26, 1948. They lived in Waterloo until 1969 when they moved to Red Wing. She worked at Big Ben Restaurant as the Pie Baker, at the St. James Hotel as a prep cook for 10 years, at Super Valu and then at Braschler's Bakery as a baker. Mac died June 5, 2002. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and attended First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed baking, cooking, dancing, spending time with her family and shopping with her grandchildren.

Survivors include five children: Dennis "Sam" (Mary) McCord of Cedar Rapids, IA, Debera McCord of Red Wing, Denice (Richard) Paulson of Onalaska, Wis, Sharon (Richard Kullman) McCord and Cynthia (David) Youmans of Goodhue; six grandchildren; siblings: Richard (Dorothy) Conerd of Waterloo, Earl (Carol) Conerd of Quasqueton, IA, Geri McCraney of Texas, Norma (Marty) O'Donnell of Evansdale, IA, Nancy Robbins of Salem, Oregon, David (Chris) Conerd of Evansdale, IA and Danny (Agnus) Conerd of Independence, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband; her brother, Jimmy and her sister, Jeannie Timmerman.

Funeral service will be 11 a. m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Red Wing, with Reverend Wayne Walther officiating. Burial will be Tuesday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Pallbearers will be Christopher McCord, David, Jared and Jordan Youmans, Richard Kullman and Rick Paulson. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, 602 Plum St., Red Wing, and on Monday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to the Alzheimer's Association.
