Shirley Johnson died Monday April 4, 2011 at her home in Red Wing.
She was born on October 30, 1928, in Rochester, to Alfred and LaVon (Davis) Gravos. She graduated from Central High School in 1946 and then attended St. Olaf College. She married Alvie Johnson in 1950 at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing. The couple lived in Welch for 57 years, moving to Red Wing in 2007. She was employed as a secretary at Welch Village Ski Area and Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.
She was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church and sang in the church choir for over 50 years. She was also a 4-H leader for Willing Welchers. She enjoyed reading, golfing, camping, skiing in the mountains, traveling, biking on the Cannon Valley Trail, and spending time at the cottage in Welch.
She is survived by her children, Lonnie (Ronald) Drahos, Alan (Cynthia) Johnson, Amy (Gene) Grams. She was devoted to her grandchildren who were the joy of her life: Elise, Aaron, and Brigitta Johnson, Amanda (Jeffrey) Hendrick, Jaclyn and Anthony Grams.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvie and her parents.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church. The visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Bob Albing will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Red Wing Environmental Learning Center/Bruce Ause Endowment Fund, Cross of Christ Lutheran Church or Fairview Red Wing Hospice.
