Shirley Jeanne Heath

Shirley Jeanne Heath, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, 86, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Benedictine Living Community – St. Crispin. She was born January 14, 1936 in Sioux City, Iowa to Otto and Jenny (Galliseth) Schmidt. Her mother, Jenny passed away while she was an infant so her eldest sisters, Ann Sandeen and Mid Briley raised her. She also had two other sisters, Dorothy and Margaret as well as two brothers, John and Earl.

She attended Red Wing Central High School and she married Alfred Heath on July 5th 1957. Together they had five children. She worked as a painter at Red Wing Pottery and later moved to Hager City where she owned and operated Tender Loving Care, a day care, for 36 years. After Alfred’s death in 1980, Shirley moved to Red Wing.

She enjoyed wordsearches, garage sales and flea markets.  She loved family car rides around the lake, picking up cheese curds, ice cream and apples in Wisconsin, and going to the Casino. She also liked to go camping, fishing and visiting her hometown of Sioux City to see her brothers and sisters. Most of all, she loved being a plain old Grama.

She is survived by her 4 children, Ruth Ann (Curt Richardson) Johnson of South Carolina, Michael Heath of Ellsworth, Phyllis Sullivan of Winona, and Eugene (Becky) Heath of Florida; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; one son, Jon Heath; two brothers and four sisters; and her parents.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, May 20, 2022 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
