Shirley I. Cage

Shirley I. Cage age 80 of Zumbrota died on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at the Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 1:00 PM at United Redeemer Lutheran Church with Reverend Thomas Isaacson officiating. Burial will be in United Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Monday from 4:00 � 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home � Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Shirley Ione Bjerkvig was born on February 20, 1927 in Zumbrota Township, Goodhue County, MN to Joseph and Inga (nee Berg) Bjerkvig. She grew up in rural Zumbrota, attended country school and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1944. She worked for Lutheran Brotherhood in the twin cities area and the Mayo Clinic. In August of 1952 she married Thomas Dildine and he died on February 18, 1954. In May 23, 1958 she married Cecil Cage at the United Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. They made their home in the Zumbrota area and Shirley worked for the Zumbrota News for many years. Shirley was a member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church and its ladies aid. She volunteered at the Zumbrota Food Shelf and enjoyed gardening, flowers, bird watching and bowling. Shirley is survived by her husband Cecil, two sons, Brent (Barb) Cage of Lake Wells, FL and Matt (Deb) Cage of Bagley, MN, two daughters, Patsy (Ron) Elgas of Cedar Rapids, IA and Kelly (Jim) Owens of Rochester, five grandchildren Walker, William, Robert and Elisabeth Cage and Glason Owens, one brother, Jannes Bjerkvig of Zumbrota and one sister, Ruth Fretheim of Decorah, IA. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Chris Cage.
