Sharon Faye McNurlin, 78, of Red Wing, died Monday, December 28, 2020 at Deer Crest. She was born March 16, 1942, in Menahga, Minnesota, to John and Gladys (Martin) Jurva. Her family moved to Minneapolis, where she grew up and graduated from North High School. Following graduation, she was united in marriage to Tom McNurlin on June 26, 1959. They lived in Minneapolis, Coon Rapids and Forest City, Iowa, before coming to Red Wing in 1971. While Tom worked at Meyer Industries, she took care of their home and children until their children graduated. She spent a few years at working at the Red Wing Shoe Company and then switched to retail, where she was employed at A Holiday Affair and Mickey Finn’s. Her passion was always interior decorating and design, and she was able to assist others with her flair, when she worked part-time at Ferrin’s Furniture.
Sharon was one of the friendliest, most-social persons around—she loved people. She was always laughing and making others laugh. Her upbeat, positive and happy outlook on life was always apparent. Her true joy and love in life was her devoted husband, Tom. Together the two of them played numerous rounds of golf, a love they both shared, as well as trap-shooting, a skill Sharon picked up and excelled at. They were able to enjoy several winters in Palm Springs, California, golfing through the winter and enjoying time together with friends. When Sharon’s illness progressed and she was no longer able to stay at home, Tom spent every day with her at Deer Crest, visiting with her, caring for her and singing to her--they were a true love story to the end.
She is survived by her husband, Tom of Red Wing; 3 children, Pam McNurlin of Red Wing, Scott (Lee-Lee) McNurlin of Ellsworth, WI and Tom (Linda) McNurlin of Prescott, WI; 5 grandchildren, Josh Christianson, Jenny (Michael) Conroy and Matthew, Marcus and Amy Jo McNurlin; 7 great-grandchildren, Wesley, Cedric, Eli, Landon, Michael, Thomas and Jacob and 3 siblings, Darlene (Frank) Stone of Brainerd, Tom (Toni) Jurva and Terry (Sheila) Jurva of Isle, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Jim, Jerry and Edward Jurva; 1 sister, Geraldine Hauck and a grandson, Jacob Christianson.
