Sandra Kaye Sammelson

Sandra Kaye "Sandy" Sammelson, 61, Red Wing, died Wednesday morning at her home. She was born July 24, 1946 in Red Wing, the daughter of Robert and Lillian (Kappedahl) Pagel. She graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1964 and from Augsburg College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education in 1968. She married Robert Sammelson on March 22, 1969 in Cannon Falls. They farmed in Vasa Township. She was a substitute teacher for Red Wing and Cannon Falls school districts; she worked as a seasonal employee for Sharon and Audrey's Catering and Welch Village. For the past twenty years she worked in the preschool program for Red Wing School District. She was a member of Vasa Lutheran Church. She volunteered with 4H and she enjoyed word puzzles, Sudoku puzzles, golfing, reading, watching the Minnesota Twins and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband Bob of Red Wing; three children: Sara (Quinn) O'Reilly of Kasson, Rob (Anna) Sammelson of Muncie, Indiana and Johanna (Jason) Majerus of Goodhue; five grandchildren; her parents, Bob and Lil Pagel of Cannon Falls; two sisters, Linda (Steve) Norstad of Cannon Falls and Martha (Kerry) Navara of Woodbury. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Mary and Charles Pagel and her maternal grandparents, Oscar and Jennie Kappedahl.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Vasa Lutheran Church with Reverend Michael Dobbins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers will be Levi, Ryan & Ray Johnson, Brad & Tom Perkins, Jesse Navara and Paul Norstad. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Robby & Andrew Sammelson, Jacey & Morgan Majerus and Lauryn O'Reilly. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, Red Wing, and on Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the church or the Colvill Family Center.
