Sandra Kay (Sorenson) Thorson

Funeral services for Sandra Thorson will be held 1:00 PM Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home – Larson Chapel in Zumbrota. The Rev. David Krinke will officiate. Ms. Thorson, 68, of Zumbrota, died Thursday April 8, 2021 at her home. Proper masking is required inside the funeral home and social distancing is encouraged whenever possible. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, and burial will follow the funeral at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester.

Sandra Kay Sorenson was born November 12, 1952 in Rochester, the daughter of Harlan and Illa (Finseth) Sorenson. Raised on a farm near Chatfield, she began as a hairdresser after completing high school, and then became an insurance agent working in the insurance industry for many years. She married Jerome Danielson of Chatfield, and the couple later divorced. She married Don Thorson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, and the couple made their home in Rochester. Her personal interests included crafting, making flowers, gardening, and landscaping. She particularly loved decorating for holidays.

Sandra is survived by her mother Illa Kraling of Pueblo West, Colorado; a sister Brenda (Jeff) Walters; step-children Gary (Judy) Thorson, Mark Thorson, Darwin Thorson (Pam), Teresa (Dan) Galvin, Brenda (Charlie) Thompson, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Bruce Walters, Aimee Walters, Erik (Michelle) Walters, and Katie (Brian) Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Thorson; father Harlan Sorenson; two brothers Bruce and James Sorenson; a sister Debbie Sorenson; and her grandparents.
