Sandra Halverson

March 5, 1948 — November 18, 2024

Bay City, WI

Sandra Mary (Sandquist) Halverson made the world a better place as she was born March 5, 1948, to Dorothy (Johnson) Sandquist and Melvin Robert Sandquist. It was only after a very brief, unexpected illness that her family had to sadly say goodbye to her. Sandy went home to her Lord and Savior, and to the arms of her beloved husband and best friend of over 50 years, on Monday, November 18, 2024. This was done peacefully while surrounded by her loving family. Created by two people's love for one another, Sandy lived her life giving of herself to others. Sandy did this by being the big sister to her siblings, later becoming a nurse who cared for "her people," working 38 years at the Seminary Home in Red Wing, ten of those years as co-coordinator of the Alzheimer’s Unit. She was a mother to three children, devoted daughter to her parents, and abundantly giving to the less fortunate. Sandy truly lived her faith, praising Jesus in all that she did. Sandy was a kind, gentle soul, thinking of others always before herself. She graduated in 1966 from North St. Paul High School and received her LPN license in 1967. Sandy met the love of her life while she was in LPN school in Red Wing, MN. It was from that first meeting that they became inseparable. On April 20, 1968, Sandra Mary Sandquist married Dorance Gordon Halverson. Together, Dorance and Sandy navigated their lives, enjoying just being together. Traveling to the mountains was one of their favorite things to do, and they did this many times over their years together. Together, Sandy and Dorance were blessed with three children, Heidi, Wendy and Mike. Sandy loved being a mom to her children, always putting their needs before her own. Her children were blessed to have such a mother to guide, love, and raise them. Later in life, Sandy welcomed the spouses of her children with open arms, loving them like her own. Sandy, with all her abundant love, excelled when it came to being a grandma and great-grandma. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will forever hold good memories of Sandy in their hearts. Sandy, a quiet person to most, had a witty sense of humor, which she passed on to her children. She enjoyed music and reading and said it was her favorite pastime. Sandy also excelled at crafting and sewing; she could cross-stitch the most beautiful pictures. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and enjoyed being part of two different church quilting groups. Sandy's quilting groups filled her soul by allowing time with good friends while also providing quilts for the needy.

Sandy is survived by her three children: Heidi (Jeff) Cavaness, Wendy (Rob) Maxwell, and Mike Halverson; grandchildren: Max, Mia, Margaret, Tyler, Nick, Abby, and Tanner; two great-grandchildren: Maisley, Myla, and soon-to-be baby girl Halverson; siblings: Bob (Mary) Sandquist, Dave Sandquist, and Patty (John) Groetsch; and many nieces and nephews. Sandy was preceded in death by her soulmate, love of her life, and other half, Dorance; and her parents, Dorothy and Melvin Sandquist.
