Samuel Berthel Pearson

Samuel Berthel Pearson, 93, of Red Wing died Friday, November 15, 2019, at his home at Deer Crest, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 28, 1926, in Red Wing to Theodore and Marie (Rigelman) Pearson. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1944 and was honored as an All State Offensive Tackle. He joined the US Navy and served in the Seabees in the Pacific at the end of World War II. After completing his military service, he attended River Falls University and Minneapolis School of Business. He worked for Ford Motor Company in St. Paul for 31 years before retiring. He then drove part-time for Minneapolis Auto Auction for 17 years.
He married Priscilla Ericsson on October 23, 1948 and they lived in Minneapolis and Richfield. Priscilla died in June of 1993. On October 30, 2004, he exchanged vows with Muriel Copp and they made their home in Red Wing. He was an active member of Woodlake Lutheran Church in Richfield. After moving back to Red Wing in 2004, he attended First United Methodist Church, became a member of the YMCA, Golden K and the Aktion Club and volunteered for Faith in Action.
He is survived by Muriel Copp; three sons, William (Kathryn) Pearson of Vadnais Heights, Tom (Kim) Pearson of Eden Prairie and Eric (Marcelle) Pearson of Minnetonka; five grandchildren, Jesse (Angela) Pearson of Shoreview, Samuel (Emily) Pearson of Rochester, Micah (Linnea) Pearson of Minneapolis, Katie (fiancée, Blake Wragge) Pearson of Eden Prairie and Madelyn Pearson of Minnetonka and eight great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Priscilla; three siblings, Donald Pearson, Grace Pritz and Hazel Olson.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2019, at First United Methodist Church in Red Wing with Reverend Clay Oglesbee officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Cross of Christ Lutheran Cemetery near Welch. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the Woodlake Lutheran Church in Richfield, Luther Seminary in St. Paul or to the donor's choice.
