OBITUARY: Samuel "Sam" Closner Funeral services for Samuel "Sam" Closner will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 10, 2006 at the United Methodist Church in Pine Island with Reverend Ruth Phelps officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Island Cemetery. Mr. Closner, age 66, died on Sunday, February 5, 2006 Saint Mary?s Hospital in Rochester. He was born Samuel Russell Closner, on August 12, 1939, in Milton Township, Dodge County, Minnesota to Russell and Alice (Schiesser) Closner. Sam attended Pumpkin Hollow Country School in Dodge County and attended Pine Island High School. He did general repair work around the area. On July 18, 1958 he married Dorthy Vagt in Rochester. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Pine Island where Sam worked as a supervisor for Land O Lakes. He retired in 1995 after working 35 years for them. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and enjoyed collecting model trains, fishing, hunting, woodworking, gardening and bird watching. Sam is survived by his wife, Dorthy, and his mother, Alice, of Pine Island, MN, five sons: Jack (Charmaine), of Pine Island, MN, Bob (Luann Frandel), of Mapleton, MN, Darren (Kimberly), of Waseca, MN, Doug, of Pine Island, MN and Rick (Amy) , of Pine Island, MN; one daughter, Debi (David) Hein, of Good Thunder, MN; one sister, Norma (Richard) Wobig, of Pine Island, MN; seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Russell. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Thursday at Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and one hour preceding services at the church on Friday.
