Loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Ruth Elaine Hauschildt-Murphy, 80, of Cannon Falls, died Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Twin Rivers Assisted Living in Cannon Falls. She was born March 12, 1930 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Myrle and Vera (St. John) Alexander. She graduated from Farmington High School in 1948. On August 22, 1950 she married Gordon Hauschildt. They lived in Welch. She worked at Smead's Manufacturing in Hastings for many years and did foster care for five years. Gordon died on February 28, 1990. She married Joe Murphy on November 2, 1993. They lived in rural Cannon Falls where Ruth was an active member of Cannon River Lutheran Church and WELCA. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the neighborhood card club. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, photography, horses, rodeos, music, and her family and friends. Her family remembers her cooking and baking, especially her cinnamon rolls.
She is survived by her husband, Joe; children, Deborah St. John of Red Wing, Barbara (John) Maher of Hastings, Gary (Gloria) Hauschildt of Randolph, and Kathy (Kevin) Clemens of Welch; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Gordon; granddaughters, Lori Jean Hauschildt and Brenda Marie Maher; brothers, Marvin and Robert Alexander, and sister, Marj Whittier.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2010 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church with Reverend Bob Albing officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
