Ruth H. Glabe age 90 of Pine Island, formerly of Oronoco died on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Sunday, September 28, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Presbyterian Church of Oronoco with Reverend Dr. Gary Titusdahl officiating. Inurnment will be in the Oronoco Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, 2008 from 3:00 � 6:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home � Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and on Sunday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ruth Harriet Pike was born on May 30, 1918 in Haverhill Township, Olmsted County, MN to Leon and Estella (nee Eggler) Pike. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Ruth graduated from Rochester High School in 1936 and attended the University if Minnesota School of Agriculture. She worked at the Olmsted County Courthouse. On October 8, 1943 she married Karl D. Glabe in Rochester. They farmed in Oronoco Township until retiring in 1982. After retiring they moved to a neighboring farm and lived there until moving to Pine Island in October of 2006. Ruth was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Oronoco and was also a member of the Oronoco Seniors, Order of Eastern Star, Homemakers Club and the Reach to Recovery support group. She was the City Clerk for Oronoco for many years and had served as a 4-H and Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, dancing, baking and playing cards. Ruth is survived by three daughters, Annette Glabe of Grass Valley, CA, Marilyn (Ron) Monson of Rochester and Jane (Ed) Shanks of Buffalo, MN, one son, Leland (Lori) Glabe of Oronoco, three granddaughters, Claire Shanks, Brittiny Glabe and Chelsie Glabe, two grandsons, Ben Shanks and Cody Glabe, one great granddaughter, Madeline Austin and her twin brother, Ralph (Ruth) Pike of Rochester. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Karl, her parents, one granddaughter, Lacy Glabe, and two sisters, Marguerite Zimmerman and Barbara Schwanke. Honorary bearers are Claire Shanks, Brittiny and Chelsie Glabe, Ben Shanks, Cody Glabe, Joyce Rucker, Harriet Glasenapp, Bea Friary, ZeeAnn Reishus and Kathy Berg.
