Ruth Magdalene Cedar, 79, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. She was born December 16, 1928 in Cannon Falls to Oscar and Philhelmina (Burr) Wahlstrom. She graduated from Cannon Falls High School. She married Leo Cedar on April 19, 1947 in Cannon Falls. They lived in Red Wing and she had worked at Nybo's for 20 years and at Riedells Shoes for 25 years, retiring in 1995. After retirement, she worked as a cook for the Red Wing School District. Leo died May 16, 1993. A member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts, quilting, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren. A sports enthusiast, she was a fan of the MN Twins, Gopher Hockey and the RW Ace's--she and her husband were voted the RW Aces Fans of the Year.

She is survived by eight children, Steve Cedar, Cindy (Richard) Curtis, Larry Cedar, Vicki (Tony) Berg, Sally Cedar (Joe Smith) and Juli (Harlan) Northey all of Red Wing, Mike (Emily) Cedar of St. Paul Park and Jerry (Jessica) Cedar of Wabasha; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a twin brother, Robert Wahlstrom of Hastings and brother, Luverne (Eldora) Wahlstrom of Hastings and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Peggy Cedar and four sisters, Lorraine Reinardy, Sal Collins, Muriel Hagman and Marian Wahlstrom.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be Christopher Curtis, Brooks Berg, Rachael Northey, Andrea Northey, Jade Cedar, Magdalene Cedar, Leo Cedar, Ashley Stites, Darren Shea and Carson Curtis. Visitation will be for 2 hours prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to the Red Wing Food Shelf. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
