OBITUARY: Ruth Ann Carney

Funeral services for Ruth Ann Carney will be at 11 AM on Monday, April 28, 2008 at Saint Paul Lutheran Church with Reverend John Torris Lohre and Reverend Kip Groettum officiating. Casketbearers will be her grandsons: Colin Carney, Ethan Carney, Shad Carney, Jason Carney, Peter Carney and Matthew Dolan. Burial will be in the Pine Island Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Interfaith Hospitality House.

Ruth Ann Carney, age 81, of Pine Island died on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. She was born on November 4, 1926 in New Haven Twnshp., to Charles and Mary (Brandli) Glamm. Ruth grew up on the farm and attended Pine Island schools. She worked as a waitress at the Rainbow Caf? for 30 years and, during this time, she married Marvin Carney on October 25, 1945 in Claremont, MN. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in New Haven Twnshp., Olmsted Co. for 23 years. She retired and they moved into Pine Island. Marvin died on May 12, 2000. Ruth was a lifelong member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church and a past member of the Pine Island Legion Auxiliary. She sewed quilts, enjoyed gardening, canning, flowers and her children.

Ruth is survived by one son, Wayne (Carol) Carney, of Pierre, SD, a daughter, Jean (Tom) Dolan, of Pine Island, MN, a son, Jim (Marlis) Carney, of Rochester, MN and son Robert (Patricia) Carney, of Oconto Falls, WI; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Clarice (Ray) Madsen, of Kasson, MN. Her husband, Marvin; parents, Charles and Mary; one daughter, Mary Smallbrock; two brothers: Robert and Max Glamm; and two sisters: Vera Rhodes and Marie Sanders preceded her in death.

Visitation will be Sunday from 3-5 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and one hour preceding services at the church on Monday.
